Downtown Honolulu is decorated throughout, with the yearly display of the Honolulu City Lights. Hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors alike visit the downtown area and Honolulu Hale (City Hall) to see the display of decorated trees, listen to free concerts and wander among the displays. New Year's Eve in Waikiki is an experience you'll probably never forget.
Because of Hawaii's primary Asian culture, New Years means firecrackers and fireworks and the more red firecracker paper you have in your back or front yard the next morning, the luckier your year will be. New Year's is an explosion of sound, of champagne being opened, of family and friends having picnics on the beach to bring in the new year, of dressing up and enjoying a formal dinner with five courses and of thousands and thousands of fire crackers being lit with the hope that the next year will be a better one.
