Nightclubs / Nightlife
Hawaii is known for exciting ocean activities, hiking trails and luxurious resorts, but the Aloha State also has a happening nightlife scene. The most popular night clubs and bars are located on the island of Oahu, primarily in and around Waikiki. The attitude is generally laid back and casual and the people are accommodating and friendly. In addition to the clubs, you can enjoy live music, great restaurants and other nightly events at different venues throughout Waikiki.
Hula's Bar & Lei Stand is one of the most popular gay bars in Hawaii, being a prominent fixture in the community for over 30 years. It is located on the second floor of the Waikiki Grand Hotel, across the street from the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park. The atmosphere is friendly, the drinks are generous and the views out of the wide open windows are spectacular. Angles Waikiki is on the corner of Kuhio and Seaside Avenues in Waikiki and is known as the "friendliest gay bar and nightclub". Several events are hosted throughout the week, including a hot all male revue, pool tournaments and live music and dancing.
Fusion Waikiki is located on Kuhio Avenue and is the only bar and nightclub open until 4:00 a.m. The bar hosts a sizzling strip show performed by the Men of Fusion as well as an entertaining drag show. A smaller neighborhood bar called In Between is hidden in the midst of Waikiki and is a great place to meet locals without the "attitude" of other bars.
A great event not to be missed is "Sunset on the Beach" on Queen's Surf Beach in Kuhio Beach Park, held every other Saturday and Sunday night (weather permitting). A movie is displayed on a 30-foot projection screen and patrons can bring their own mats and chairs to sit on to watch the film. There is also live entertainment that starts 2 hours prior to the movie, which usually begins around 7 p.m. Food vendors also set up for the event and offer a variety of cuisine and desserts for movie goers.
